A Midsummer Night's Dream

The Ballet

World Premier
Music by: Mendelssohn
New Choreography by: Jennifer Hart
Starring: Guest Artist Ramon Theilen as Oberon, Mifa Ko as Titania and Keith Glenn as Puck.

A neo-classical ballet about the transforming power of love, based on William Shakespeare's comedy about the romantic adventures and misadventures, quarrels and reuniting(s), of two pairs of mortal lovers, the King and Queen of the Fairies with the antics of Puck.

The ballet, through its themes of reality versus illusion, change versus constancy, displays love in all its guises. There are dances of unrequited love and love that is reconciled. There is a pas de deux for the Fairy Queen Titania and Bottom, who has been turned into an Ass -- a perfect illustration in dance of the old proverb, "love is blind."

The Music
Felix Mendelssohn was only 17 when he wrote the overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which musically introduces all of the play’s characters and themes. His musical interpretation of Shakespeare’s comedy sets the perfect mood for this magical ballet.
